If you have natural hair, wash day can feel like the most tiring and tedious task in the world. I felt like this for a very long time (and still do … sort of), but the moment I created a better routine and implemented the right products, my story has changed drastically. Whilst I am still on the journey of finding the best and most optimal products and methods for my hair, I feel as though I’ve reached a very good checkpoint. Gone are the days I leave my un-stretched hair to air dry, or douse my hair in a cheap conditioner overridden with unfriendly ingredients. Read on to see my quick(er) and easy routine!

STEP ONE – DETANGLE AND SECTION
Boring, I know. However this step is incredibly important to ensure each bit of your hair is thoroughly cleansed and covered. With natural hair, especially thick 4c hair, trying to work through it unsectioned and in its full fro state is like trying to work through a complicated maze. Working with smaller sections helps, a lot! Detangling with smaller sections is also a dream, and much less painful. If you detangle before you get in the shower to wash your hair there will also be a lot less breakage. When detangling and sectioning hair I always make sure my hair is soft with water – detangling dry hair is a nightmare!
STEP TWO – SHAMPOO + CONDITIONING
With the sections already done, this step is so simple! I use the Hydrating Detangling Shampoo by Keracare to get out all the buildup and dirt, working through each section and scrubbing my scalp properly. I usually do this twice. After that I use the Keracare Creme Conditioner, which was recommended to me by my hairdresser when I got my first ever silk press (to which I received heat damage from, rip to my curls in the back), and I leave that to sit in my hair whilst I finish showering for about 15-20 minutes.
STEP THREE – MOISTURISING
After I’ve finished in the shower, and have rinsed out the conditioner, I grab my leave in conditioner and go absolutely feral with it. After watching numerous YouTube videos and deep diving into the natural hair community (we’ve all been there), I came across natural hair ‘expert’ Anthony Dickey who suggested that conditioner is a relaxer for natural hair. It relaxes and lets your hair feel comfortable in its curls! Whilst you rinse out conditioners, leave in conditioner is a perfect way to keep your hair in its relaxed state. To ensure each bit of my hair is covered, I put my hair into 20-30 twists. As I am saturating my hair in the leave in conditioner I also go in with my moisture butter to ensure my hair isn’t dry and brittle. Popping my hair into twists has been an absolute game changer! This allows for my hair to dry in my twists, all stretched out and in the best state for me to style!
Usually I’d end here and put my hair under a bonnet, sealing my twists with my essential oils and oiling my edges, but if I have more time I would blow-dry my hair, using the Keracare Silken Seal, and twist my hair back up using my essential oils to make my hair shiny and healthy!
